My Health and Fitness Journey – week 8
Derailed by sickness
A short update this week as week 8 was not what I had expected but it showed that in life, you have to deal with whatever comes your way. I picked up a cold that put me out for most of the week. It wasn’t man flu or anything serious but a normal cold which was bad enough to make me feel very lethargic and low energy.
I still managed to work all week and push through it but adding workouts on top wasn’t possible for most of the week. Picking up viruses and colds are a normal part of life and they will happen.
I decided to rest and recover and not push too much, and I think that my continued healthy eating and taking supplements helped me recover much quicker than usual. I am not one to get sick often and I am glad it was temporary but taking a rest was the best thing I did this week.
Exercise:
I only managed to get to the gym twice, in the latter part of the week which was Thursday and Saturday. I didn’t have the energy and its not comfortable doing exercise when you are all bunged up and coughing away. I took it easy and that’s the best ploy, listen to your body. I don’t usually listen to my body and suffer after and so I am glad I am finally learning.
Supplements:
I continued with all the same supplements as before which are:
NMN – to boost my NAD+ levels and Mitochondrial function.
Nitric Oxide (L-citrulline & L-arginine) – for cardiovascular health and reduce blood pressure.
Magnesium – to helps with sleep and rest.
Multivitamins – these cover everything and are the staple essential.
Vitamin D – helps with bone health, immune system support, muscle function, mental health, and energy.
Creatine Monohydrate – this enhances muscle energy, strength, recovery.
Resveratrol - offers antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular, metabolic, and cognitive benefits.
Vitamin K2 MK7 - offer significant benefits for bone health, cardiovascular health, and calcium metabolism.
Intermittent Fasting:
I continued with the intermittent fasting, usually from 8-9pm through until 1-2 pm the next day.
Diet:
I continued my low carb, high protein diet. I don’t find this too difficult to maintain but it does require an amount of pre-planning and preparation. As I was sick, I did have some comfort food but only a little.
Results at the end of week 8:
Weight: I didn’t lose any weight; not did I gain any and stayed at the 77kg which is still a good drop from my 85kg and has reduced any stress and pain on my joints.
Body Shape: Continued to make some progress although not by much this week.
Energy: Energy wise I was low on energy with the virus but with rest and my healthy eating it didn’t last so long as usual.
Mental Focus: It still seemed good despite being hit by the virus
Sleep: Still sleeping well and getting a good night’s rest every night.
Week 8 was a setback; it shows that progress is rarely linear for any sustained period. It can flatten out or sometime take a step backwards which is ok. If the overall the trajectory is in the right direction, then that’s the main thing. I flatlined this week and it won’t be the last. I still have a plan and goals to achieve and I’m looking to keep going at least through June whilst transitioning away from the gym to outdoor exercise by the end of the month.
